Liverpool University Hospitals hosts both Liverpool and Wirral Bowel Cancer Screening and Merseyside and North Cheshire Bowel Cancer Screening programmes.
NHS bowel cancer screening checks if you could have bowel cancer.
The programme offers screening every two years to all men and women aged 50 to 74. People over 75 can request a screening kit by calling a free phone helpline 0800 707 6060.
If you take part in screening and complete a FIT test (poo sample test), and the sample is found to have traces of blood, you will be invited to your local screening programme for further investigation and tests. There are many reasons you could have a positive result.
If your sample is found to have traces of blood you might be asked to visit the hospital for a colonoscopy – a high standard of endoscopy, where a thin tube with a camera inside is passed into your bottom to look for signs of bowel cancer.
We provide colonoscopy for the traditional FIT screening test (poo kits) for people aged 54 to 74.
