GP Referrals

We accept referrals from General Practitioners (GP) and other health professionals. Referrals should be made using the national e-Referral Service. We recommend General Practitioners to use the Advice and Guidance electronic system before referral, this is monitored daily by our consultants. Advice and Guidance and e-Referrals should be directed to the specific sites, Broadgreen or Aintree.

Tertiary referrals

Referrals from other hospitals via letter or email will be considered if there is a clear need for Specialty care that cannot be delivered locally. Referrals are triaged daily by our consultants and prioritised based on clinical need and information in the referral.

We aim to see patients with early arthritis referrals within three weeks from referral. Urgent referrals will be seen within six weeks, sooner for those deemed more serious. Current waiting times for a routine appointment are six to eight months. If your condition worsens whilst waiting for an appointment, please contact your GP who can discuss your care with our team.

Our Rheumatology team is involved in clinical and laboratory-based research. Our patients have the chance to participate in clinical trials and have access to the latest drugs and treatments.

Our service hosts a Behçets’s Syndrome Centre of Excellence, one of only three centres in the country to offer a clinic of this kind.
