Our Pharmacy Department provides medicine to our inpatients and outpatients across Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

If you need medication as part of your treatment with us, then the pharmacy team will support you to get the best out of your medicines.

Whether it’s helping to check your own medicines are suitable for use, prescribing your treatment, supplying or dispensing your medicines, pharmacy colleagues work alongside clinicians to ensure that we deliver the right medication, to the right patients at the right time.

Whilst you are in our care, a hospital pharmacist will be available to assist clinicians 24-hours a day.

Coming into hospital

Our hospital staff need to obtain a clear record of all the medicines you take so if you are coming into hospital please bring your medicines with you. If you forget or were admitted in an emergency and unable to, then we may ask your family, carers or visitors to bring them in.

It is important that you do not take any medicines without the hospital staff knowing. All medicines which you take in hospital need to be prescribed and we record what you have taken or been given.

Medication when leaving hospital

When you leave hospital, please check with a member of ward staff that you have all your medicines and /or that you are clear on where to obtain any further supplies.

If you have any queries on the medications prescribed to you, please call the medicines hotline on 0151 529 3208, which is open Monday to Friday, 8.45am-5pm, excluding bank holidays.

Homecare service

For some patients with particular conditions, we can provide a homecare service, where we will deliver, and in some cases, administer your medication at home. Your clinician will advise if this is applicable to you.
