The Nephrology Service (also known as renal medicine) cares for patients with kidney problems and treats the diseases that can cause kidney failure.

The department is based across the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Aintree University Hospital, with dedicated renal wards, dialysis units and a dedicated Home Therapies Service.

The service treats people as both inpatients and outpatients and operates across the Cheshire and Merseyside region. The Nephrology Service works closely with the Renal Transplant Team.

There are eight dialysis units across the region, which provide outpatient dialysis therapy, allowing our patients to receive treatment closer to home.

The dialysis units are located at:

  • Aintree University Hospital
  • Broadgreen Hospital
  • Halton Hospital
  • Royal Liverpool University Hospital
  • Southport Hospital
  • St Helen's Hospital
  • Warrington Hospital
  • Waterloo Dialysis Unit.
