Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) is the largest pathology service provider in Cheshire and Merseyside, formed in 2013 from the amalgamation of the pathology clinical services and laboratories of the Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. LCL has over 650 staff, working across laboratories in four hospitals, providing 24/7 services.

LCL primarily work on the diagnosis of disease and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments and undertake research into the causes and cures of disease, processing over 25 million tests each year for LUHFT sites, 200 GPs and regional and national healthcare providers.

During COVID-19, LCL was at the forefront, nationally, in establishing new 24/7 rapid Covid diagnostics for patients and staff. Working closely with clinical teams to minimise the impact on services and targeting treatment for patients.
