Fluoroscopy shows real time moving images on an x-ray monitor, so that clinicians can see and assess the movement of a body part or the movement of dye (x-ray contrast) through the body. This is achieved by x-rays passing through the body part of interest and being detected on the fluoroscopy detector, creating the image.
It is used in a wide variety of examinations and is utilised by other health professionals within the hospital to help guide them in their diagnosis of their patients, such as speech therapy.
Fluoroscopy can be used to help diagnose a health problem, such as reflux, hiatus hernia or can be used to help guide treatments, such as orthopaedic injections.
