Our podiatry teams provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions affecting the foot and lower limb.

We consist of multi-disciplinary team which run specialist clinics.

Our team:

  • Assess and treat high-risk diabetic patients, primarily with foot ulcers. Working closely with community services to provide seamless care and evidence-based treatment.
  • Assess and treat foot and ankle problems as part of the Musculoskeletal
  • Assess and treat patients with long term conditions like rheumatoid arthritis at Broadgreen Hospital
  • Provides minor surgical procedures under local anaesthesia to treat in-growing and dystrophic nails for high-risk patients at Broadgreen Hospital
  • Assess and treat patients attending the Prosthetics and Wheelchair Service on the Aintree University Hospital site
  • Deliver diabetes education talks to patients
  • Provide an inhouse orthotic workshop at Broadgreen Hospital to manufacture insoles.

Diabetes

Patients are referred from community services using the foot ulcer referral proforma for outpatient review.

Inpatients can be referred by colleagues caring for them on their ward.

Musculoskeletal Assessment Service (MCAS)

GP referral.

Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital:Outpatient podiatry requests are made via GP or Community Health Professionals, Hospital Consultants and Allied Health Professionals in the Hospitals.

Aintree University Hospital: Outpatient requests for Podiatry are made via GP or Community Health Professionals only. Please note Aintree only accepts referrals for patients with diabetes. Referrals are made from community services using the diabetic foot ulcer proforma.

In-patients can be referred by ward staff via the hospital electronic internal referral systems.
