The department of Metabolic Medicine and Clinical Biochemistry provides a wide range of services within metabolic medicine and laboratory advisory services to our hospital clinicians and GPs.

The department is responsible for the Metabolic Bone Unit which provides outpatient clinics in metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis and Paget’s disease as well as rare bone and mineral disorders.

Our specialist lipid clinics manage patients with familial lipid disorders and cardiovascular risks. The Medical Day Care Unit provides treatment to patients with metabolic bone disease and electrolyte disorders. The department provides a metabolic renal stone clinic alongside the Trust’s Urology Service, which manages patients with a history of recurrent kidney stones.

Our service also provides advice for managing biochemical abnormalities in patients on parenteral nutrition via the Hospital Nutrition Team.
