About our service

The Emergency Dental Service provides treatment for trauma, swelling and severe tooth ache to those who are not registered with a local dentist.

Access to the Emergency Dental Service is by telephone triage only, walk-in patients will not be seen and advised to ring the regional emergency dental triage service overseen by NHS England. This service can be accessed by calling 0161 476 9651, 8am -10pm, Monday to Sunday, including Bank Holidays.

What to expect

Patients will be triaged appropriately and directed to the nearest available emergency dental provider, which may include Liverpool University Dental Hospital or a local dental practice.

Please note that the Emergency Dental Service at Liverpool University Dental Hospital is an undergraduate student led service. Upon attendance, you may be seen and treated by an undergraduate dentist, under the supervision of fully qualified dental practitioners.

By exception, patients who attend with a visible facial swelling, severe bleeding or dental trauma should report to the Dental Hospital main reception desk, and your case will be discussed with a member of the clinical team.
