Appraisals at LUHFT
Here at LUHFT, we want to ensure that ALL colleagues experience a quality, meaningful and valuable appraisal conversation. The appraisals options have been designed to help ALL colleagues to feel valued, supported and clear on goals and contribution.
There are now 2 different options and processes for Appraisers to choose from when deciding how to deliver the best possible appraisal experience for colleagues within your team or department.
Depending on the structure within your team or the varying roles that colleagues do, by using one of the options below, you will now be able to deliver the appraisal that fits best.
LUHFT Appraisals - Your Options!
When planning your appraisal conversations, you can now choose from the following options:
1. The Standard One to One Appraisal Conversation (one version for People Managers and one version for Non-People Managers)
2. The New Starter Welcome Appraisal Conversation
These options are there to support you to have quality and meaningful conversations. Ultimately, all colleagues need to feel valued during the appraisal process and be clear on the ask of them for the coming year.

The Large Department Appraisal Approach
This option will only apply to you:
- If your team or department has more than 20 colleagues
- You have a lower number of Appraisers available
- Shared department level objectives are suitable to use
The benefit of this approach is to manage high volume as single appraisers can use time in existing meetings to fast track a larger group of colleagues into shared goals that are a priority for the department.
This group discussion is followed up with a shorter one to one conversation with individual colleagues to discuss wellbeing and to help them to feel valued.
If you are interested in utilising the large department approach for your appraisals, please reach out to organisational.development@liverpoolft.nhs.uk
