Information alert:

At present, we are not able to offer any GLP-1 injectable weight loss medications such as Wegovy (Semaglutide). NHS Cheshire and Merseyside is currently undertaking a full review of the pathways and delivery of specialist weight management services, which will include medication provision.

The Aintree Weight Management Service is a specialist weight management service for patients from Sefton and parts of Lancashire, which offers a two-year multidisciplinary approach to weight management.

The team includes consultant physicians, physiotherapists, dietitians, a psychologist and assistant practitioners, who are specially trained to address lifestyle change whilst considering the health problems associated with obesity.

Patients are individually assessed by a Weight Management Practitioner so that the programme can be tailored to meet their needs.

The therapy teams primarily offer group-based support, however, in certain cases one-to-one appointments are available.

Patients may also be signposted to external services, which may include an eating disorders service or sleep clinic.

Early in the pathway, bariatric surgery is discussed with patients who meet the preliminary criteria. The service supports patients along the pathway towards bariatric surgery.
