The Emergency Eye Clinic is for eye accidents, emergencies, and sight threatening conditions, staffed by specialist ophthalmic nurses, optometrists and doctors.

Located on the Lower Ground of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, the Emergency Eye Clinic is open every day 8am - 8pm. Patients are advised to arrive by 5pm to allow for time to be assessed and avoid being asked to return to the clinic the next day.

Patients can attend without an appointment, and you will be triaged by the senior nursing team. Following this consultation, you will be referred to a specialist service or discharged, if appropriate.

Please note that more serious cases will be prioritised, and that at busy times you may have to wait to see a nurse or doctor.

For ophthalmic emergencies between 8pm-8am please go to the hospital’s general Emergency Department.
