The Oral Maxillofacial Service (OMFS), is a regional service for Merseyside and Cheshire, delivering services to nine other hospitals nearby.

The majority of OMFS surgery, including trauma surgery, is performed at Aintree Hospital. It is a key component of the recently established Liverpool Head and Neck Centre and one of the largest and busiest centres in Europe, with a global reputation. 

We offer a comprehensive service relating to conditions of the face, mouth and jaws, including a routine assessment and treatment service for common oral surgical conditions.

Our consultants treat a range of conditions, including facial injuries, head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial deformities, facial pain, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws, as well as mouth ulcers and infections.

Services and treatments provided by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team include:

  • Minor oral surgery
  • Dento-alveolar surgery
  • Temporo-mandibular joint surgery
  • Facial pain
  • Facial deformity (Orthognathic, nasal surgery, craniofacial and secondary cleft surgery)
  • Head and neck cancers (ablation together with reconstruction and rehabilitation)
  • Salivary gland disease
  • Implantology
  • Laser treatment
  • Facial and oral trauma.

In addition, our maxillofacial specialists work very closely with the Ear Nose and Throat Department, particularly in the field of head and neck cancer surgery.
