Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex long term health condition. A person with the condition will experience ongoing profound and disabling fatigue that is unexplained with coinciding symptoms such as post exertional malaise, sleep problems and cognitive dysfunction. It will affect many different bodily systems, causing a wide variety of symptoms.

The pattern, duration and intensity of illness will fluctuate and vary for the person. There are large variations in both experience and duration of the condition between individuals. Some people can make good progress and may recover, where others can remain ill for several years.

The Liverpool Specialist ME/CFS Diagnostic Clinic in Infectious Diseases provides an outpatient service for adults to establish correct diagnosis of the ME/CFS condition.

Suitable patients are offered the opportunity to engage in our ME/CFS therapy programme based at Broadgreen Hospital, assisting patients to further their awareness and understanding of their own illness.
