Aintree's award-winning Audiology Department is dedicated to providing a high-quality service.
The team consists of audiologists who specialise in the assessment and treatment of hearing loss, tinnitus, vestibular (balance) disorders, Auditory Processing Disorders (APD), learning difficulties, and those who are deaf-blind.
The department is a UKAS Improving Quality In Physiological Services (IQIPS) accredited service, this means that our diagnostic services are reviewed annually to ensure that we provide our patients with a continually high standard of care. The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accreditation ensures that staff who carry out your diagnostic tests are competent, and the equipment being used is safe and fit for purpose.
NHS hearing assessment and hearing aid fittings are provided free of charge. The department fits the latest digital hearing aids as well as specialist devices such as BI-CROS/CROS hearing aids, frequency compression aids and tinnitus aids programmed to the individual needs of the patient.
Our audiologists specialise in the management of tinnitus and hyperacusis. The team offers advice and support to individuals experiencing troublesome tinnitus and provide access to Aintree Tinnitus Support Group.
The department provides services at Aintree University Hospital as well as at community centres in Bootle (May Logan Health Centre) and Kirkby (St Chads Health Centre).
Liverpool University Hospitals also provides audiology services at Broadgreen Hospital.
A domiciliary service is available for patients who are housebound and unable to come into the department or community clinics – this can be accessed via referral from your GP.
- For patients who are new to the service, please see your GP for an onwards referral to the Aintree Audiology Department
- For patients who currently use devices fitted by the Audiology team at Aintree, please contact the department directly using the contact information listed
- GPs can refer patients who are deemed totally housebound for domiciliary visits

Tinnitus Support Group
Aintree's Audiology Department runs a monthly Tinnitus Support Group.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month (except January and August) and is open to patients and their significant others
Everyone is welcome to attend the Tinnitus Support Group – you do not need to be a patient of Aintree to attend.
The Aintree Tinnitus Support Group is rated ‘Gold standard’ and is registered with Tinnitus UK.

This service is for hearing aids provided by Aintree University Hospital.
Same day drop off repairs – weekdays before 10.30am.
The department offers a same day drop off hearing aid repair service – weekdays before 10.30am. No appointment is needed for this service.
Hearing aids can be brought to the drop off service before 10.30am and will be ready for collection after 12pm only at:

Hearing aids brought after this time will be ready for collection the following working day.
This is a service provided Monday to Fridays, excluding Bank Holidays.
Face to face repair appointments (15-minute slot).

Postal services
Contact the Audiology office telephone or email if you would like batteries or tubes for your hearing aids to be sent by post.
You may post your hearing aids to us in a secure package to be repaired. Please include your name, address and state the fault with your hearing aid.

Assistive listening devices
People with a hearing loss can find that they still struggle to hear in certain situations despite wearing hearing aids. There are many organisations that can provide devices and support to help you with these problems regardless of your level of hearing loss.

Access to Work
The Access to Work Programme is intended to help disabled people obtain employment, keep existing employment, or become self employed by meeting part, or all of the costs of the additional support that some disabled people require to continue in work.
