supervisor Dr John Gilbert, Emergency Department Consultant.

Congratulations to Richard Evans, who has become the first Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in the region to obtain Royal College of Emergency Medicine ACP credentialing.

Just over 130 ACPs have gained the credentials nationally and Richard is the first in Cheshire and Merseyside, so it’s a huge achievement for Richard who works in Aintree University Hospital's Emergency Department.

“As an Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner (EM-ACP) we see a wide range of patients who present to the emergency department. Becoming credentialed means that I have been able to evidence the fact that I am able to take on a more complex case load, while working to support the wider provision of care and education within the department,” said Richard, who joined LUHFT in 2019 after working for the ambulance service.

As part of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine credentialing process, you need to submit a minimum of three years of evidence demonstrating you can manage patients with everything from minor injuries and illness to life-threatening episodes and trauma.

Richard added: “I'm proud to have got through the process. It was really demanding and required a sustained amount of work over many years, but it has helped grow my confidence as a practitioner. I think it very much sets the bar for advanced practice in emergency medicine and helps both myself, and the wider team provide the highest quality care for our patients. Plus, provide a high standard of leadership and education for the wider department and for both Emergency Medicine and ACP trainees.”

Binu George, ED Co-Clinical Director said: "Richard is the first paramedic in the North West, and also one of the first ACPs to gain this credential, in what is described as a highly selective process. His hard work and commitment to the speciality was clearly demonstrated by his efforts and he is a valued member of the Aintree Emergency Department. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him for his efforts and I'm sure his patients benefit from his expertise daily."
