Aintree University Hospitals Stroke Emergency Assessment Centre (SEAC), has been shortlisted in the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2024.
The SEAC opened last summer and is a unique £1.5 million space delivering specialist care to our stroke patients.
Stroke patients now bypass our busy Emergency Department and are taken directly to a dedicated centre, enabling them to access specialist stroke care as quickly as possible, which is critical to achieving a good outcome for patients who have had a stroke.
LUHFT is in The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award category.
SEAC was shortlisted after being nominated originally by Peter Dowd MP, Sir George Howarth MP, Kim Johnson MP, Dan Carden MP and Ian Byrne MP. George Howarth’s nomination has transferred to Annelise Midgley MP, who was elected MP for Knowsley after George’s decision to stand down at the last election.
Dr Nibu Thomas, Clinical Director of stroke services at LUHFT, said: “We are honoured to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.
“To receive this level of recognition after less than a year of the SEAC being in operation, is testament to the dedication and skill of my colleagues.
“We have worked tirelessly and collaboratively with colleagues from The Walton Centre and Southport and Ormskirk to open a one-of-a-kind service in the UK striving to deliver the best care possible to stroke patients in our region.”
